This summer our Forest Park Beacon Teens participated in a variety of enriching opportunities, including a teen group sponsored by the Aid To Victims of Domestic Assault Abuse, Inc. (AVDA) of Boynton Beach. The organization received a grant allowing them to work with area youths toward the goal of attaining three initial outcomes: 1) To increase student understanding of domestic violence; 2) To identify early warning signs of abuse; and, 3) To create a personal safety plan. AVDA’s Youth Intervention Specialist discussed methods of communicating healthy boundaries with dating partners and friends. Further, the program provided an opportunity for students to identify and develop conflict resolution skills and healthy avenues of expressing anger. The groups utilized a number of methods for presentation including, media, skits/role plays, articles and small group discussions.
